Oamaru is 112km north of Dunedin on State Highway 1. Oamaru is home of Steam Punk and some of New Zealands finest 19th century architecture.
Just north of Oamaru is the Waitaki Valley, a wonderful drive that can take you through to Central Otago via the Lindis Pass (sometimes closed in winter due to snow).
Oamaru is home to two penguin colonies and one of New Zealand's oldest public gardens.
