200km's from Dunedin and 10km's from Alexandra, Clyde is the start/end of the Central Otago Rail Trail. The region is renowned first for gold, then for its stone fruit orchards and more recently for its local vineyards producing internationally renowned Pinot Noir.
With many historic buildings, the town centre has been declared a historic precinct. Some buildings have been refurbished as cafes, bars and accommodation.
