Our service provides support, advocacy and education to parents or caregivers of a child with, or suspected to have, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
For those who suspect their child is affected by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, we can provide assessment tools to begin to build a picture of your child's development delays. We can then support you to bring this to your GP, if appropriate.
We work alongside you and help to guide you through the processes you might encounter in your child's journey.
We are a volunteer-run organisation, mostly made up of parents and caregivers who have lived experience supporting a child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

We are a "hub of community services" assisting the community with a wide variety of social services in the Te Anau - Fiordland area. We have a Community Connector, Community Family Worker and a Counsellor who assist families in need. Our Community Shuttle travels to Invercargill with prior bookings for hospital, dental, Work & Income, IRD and Immigration appointments. We also offer a Foodbank service for families who are struggling and need that extra help. Part of the Community House is Heartland Services that give access to government services and information and gives the opportunity to meet face to face with various government agency representatives. Application forms for work & Income, Inland Revenue and Immigration NZ are available. We provide an employment service to find staff for employers and work for employees. If needed we help by referring to various government agencies to assist clients. We have a meeting/seminar room and office space available for hire on a casual basis. We provide community information and advertise events/activities on our website.

It is in the initial stages of the illness that people are most frightened and concerned and when a visit from a recovered patient and information about the illness with its weird name is most valued. No one should suffer this illness alone. We inform through our Website, Brochures, Medical Advisory forum, Community Facebook forum, Conference and Hospital visits. Our group is here to help, provide advice and our experiences as a survivor of GBS. Our National Co-ordinator is available on the end of the phone or by email to help.

Hearing Dogs NZ is an independent charitable trust that assesses, selects, trains and places Hearing Dogs with deaf and severely hearing impaired New Zealanders. Hearing Dog’s are placed at no charge to the deaf person receiving the dog.

– For members (membership costs $18 per year) there is subsidised sales of hearing aid batteries, wax filters and other assistive devices

– We give educational talks to groups/organisations/staff on induced hearing loss, protecting hearing loss and on the help that is available
