We walk alongside families through diagnosis and treatment, offering support, knowledge and guidance. We make sure that our heart families have this support freely available during hospital stays and at home in the community.
Our family support team are dedicated to being there for everyone who navigates a heart journey. Often, families are faced with separation, loneliness, isolation, financial hardship, stress and uncertainty about the future. Our team of trained, passionate family support taituarā are based around Aotearoa NZ, so families are supported when and where they need it most.
Heart Kids Southland is one of the affiliated branches of Heart Kids NZ.
We are a group of parents and caregivers of children with heart conditions. We know from first hand experience how important at home support is and we are dedicated to helping others with similar needs.
We provide much-needed practical and emotional support to 264 heart members in the Southland area.

In Your Hands is for people using violence and looking to change their behaviour, and the people supporting them to do so. It has been created alongside family violence experts, frontline workers, and people with lived experience. Giving information to people who use violence can help them understand their experience and how to change, helping lower the barriers to them seeking help.

Kidney Kids is a non-profit organisation established in 1990 to support children with kidney disease and/or urinary tract disorders and their whānau nationwide.
Starship Children’s Health is the main hospital for children with chronic kidney disease. This can mean lengthy periods away from home for the child and their parent/caregiver. During this time away, Kidney Kids aims to help alleviate the stress by offering emotional and practical support to families while their child receives specialised medical treatment.
Once referred, Kidney Kids provide continued support to the whānau, with advocacy and hospital or home visits. Kidney Kids also provide educational support for children who fall behind at school as a result of having kidney disease. We offer the opportunity to apply for personal development grants through the John Velvin Trust. These grants help our kids to reach their full potential, which can be used towards their educational or personal developmental goals. The John Velvin Trust assesses each application against their criteria.
We also organise special events each year, the highlight on our calendar being our camps. We hold two camps each year for our Kidney Kids who are at, or near, end stage renal failure and kidney kids who are experiencing social distress. Additional to this, we hold several regional Christmas parties.

Koha Kai is a Charitable Trust who works with people who have been marginalized and isolated in their community by the fact that they live with the challenges of disability, from intellectual, to physical, emotional/psychological, cultural isolation. Our focus has naturally developed along the Maori Health model as outlined by Dr Mason Durie. (Te Whare Tapa Wha), that good health and wellness has four dimensions. Taha wairua (spiritual health), taha hinegnaro (mental health). Taha tinana (physical health) and taha whanau (family health). Building on those four pou, Koha Kai works with people to increase their skills, strengthen relationships, and support the growth of their natural support networks. We encourage people to improve their health and wellness by growing/consuming higher quality nutrition, and becoming more active. We encourage and train people skills that can enable them to join the work force in their communities. Thus doing they reduce their dependence on support.

Little People of New Zealand is a non-profit, charitable organisation that supports and informs people with dwarfism as well as their families, along with people who have a genuine interest.
